I first heard about The Crackling the day before I was going to see Dan Mangan play the Gooldin in Vic. A friend saw the show the night before at the Duncan Showroom, and she was blown away by them. I checked out some of their stuff on youtube and whatever other little pieces I found around the web and it made me that much more stoked for the show. The show was definitely one of my favourite live music experiences of all time.

I got a hold of Kenton and we setup a shoot in pretty short order. He mentioned a rehearsel space above one of the shops right smack in the middle of Chinatown as a possible shoot location, which seemed to make sense because the forecast was looking nasty.

Dave and I meandered up to the space (only a few blocks from his studio in Gastown) through the sloppy snow. When Kenton and Colin showed up, it was obvious they'd been running pretty hard, after playing an afternoon show on Granville Island. Big props to them for making the time to fit us in. Had a great time on this shoot... one of my faves to date. I'm really loving this new format and the chance it gives me to get to know the artists a bit more. As Dave and I were enjoying a few pints at the Lamplighter later that eve... I think he put it best by saying that "Kenton is someone consumed by his art"... but in a good way! He seems to live, eat, sleep & drink it... and I love that!

Big thanks to Dave for runing audio on this shoot, and giving me a place to crash!

Enjoy!
